Scene Relay documentation
Quick start.
Go from a new WordPress installation to a working local-events edition without guessing what needs to happen next.
Check the foundation.
Use WordPress 6.7 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer. Choose a non-plain permalink structure, serve public account pages over HTTPS, and make sure WordPress can run scheduled tasks.
- A current WordPress backup before installation or upgrade.
- A real system Cron runner or reliable WordPress loopback traffic.
- A production-grade WordPress mail transport before opening newsletter signup.
- Outbound HTTPS access to scenerelay.com for activation and protected updates.
Install the release ZIP.
- Sign in to your Scene Relay account and download the current stable release.
- In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the untouched scene-relay ZIP, install it, and select Activate.
- If WordPress asks whether to replace an older version, confirm only after checking your backup.
Do not rename files inside the ZIP or install a package copied from another customer account. Scene Relay verifies commercial updates against the release published for your license.
Activate your license.
Open Scene Relay → License in WordPress and enter the purchase key shown in your customer account. The key is exchanged for an encrypted, installation-bound activation token and is not stored on your site.
A Standard license covers one production installation, one staging installation, and local development. Deactivate an installation before permanently moving or deleting it so the activation is released cleanly.
Work through Launch Center.
Scene Relay → Launch Center turns setup into a guided readiness sequence. Complete each section and use its live checks instead of relying on memory.
Shape the edition, then rehearse it.
Use Scene Relay → Homepage to order and tune the bounded homepage modules. Configure profile media and map presentation in Settings, then create a test organizer account and rehearse profile review, event moderation, promotion approval, analytics, newsletter confirmation, and the ticket mode you intend to offer.
External ticket links remain available without WooCommerce. Scene Relay Pro can optionally add native WooCommerce ticket checkout, and the site owner can choose External Only, Native Only, or Both. Native orders use the site owner’s WooCommerce store and enabled gateways, so every ticket payment goes to that site owner. The module does not connect organizer merchant accounts or split, commission, or pay out ticket revenue. Membership and promoted-placement checkout remains a separate Scene Relay Payments workflow using the site owner’s Stripe, PayPal, or Square connection.
Update through WordPress.
With an active license, stable releases appear on the normal WordPress Updates and Plugins screens. Scene Relay authenticates the download, restricts it to the vendor origin, and verifies its declared size and SHA-256 digest before WordPress installs it.
Back up first and test larger updates on staging. If a license lapses, installed core features keep working; updates, support, protected downloads, and new activations pause after the 14-day grace period.
Troubleshoot from the evidence.
A public page or tracked ticket link returns 404
Open Settings → Permalinks and save the selected non-plain structure. Then return to Launch Center and rerun its page and route checks.
Newsletter or workflow email does not arrive
Send the branded test from Launch Center, inspect your WordPress mail transport, and confirm scheduled events are running. Scene Relay uses wp_mail() and does not bundle a delivery provider.
License activation or updates cannot reach Scene Relay
Confirm your site URL and HTTPS configuration, outbound HTTPS connectivity, server clock, active license allowance, and any host firewall or caching layer that may block WordPress HTTP requests.
You still need help
Download the redacted report from Scene Relay → Launch Center and follow the support checklist. Never include passwords, private keys, API tokens, or your complete purchase key.
